Like everyone else says, great campground, clean lavatories/showers. Volunteer Security does an awesome jobs patrolling and catching people trying to freeload. Even had someone remove our camp ticket and try to take our spot while we were at the store, they were all over it and had it squares away before we returned. Kudos!! At night, the raccoons do a great job cleaning any food left out carelessly. Please help us keep this great family activity a pleasant experience by respecting nature and leaving a clean campsite. Saw a few people leave a mess for the volunteers to clean up, NOT COOL!!
Advice-- get there early, 830 am or so, scout out the sites you like and be in line to claim. If someone doesn't renew their site by 9am it's fair game. You can claim the site but they have until noon to check out. So if you see an empty one at 830, claim at 9, move right in!
Spacious sites, very clean bathrooms, great staff on site, easy check in.
Good for a state campground. No alcohol allowed and you can't bring in outside wood, but that's understandable with the Ash Borer
The card-only self-pay kiosk is a bit confusing.
This campground was much more my style -- a bit more privacy, less crowded. Of course, there's no electric or water hookups so if you need those you might have to go with the state park.
Highly recommend!
I discovered the public showers on my way out. They seemed pretty clean. The bathrooms were modern, clean and maintained.
We used #24 in the Mather loop. Was great. Can hardly see neighbors, noise doesn't travel, every site is perfectly level.
Can't say enough great things about this place. Its quiet tucked away comfy place to camp. At night you can hear a little road traffic from rt.20 but not enough to keep you up at night. It has by far the cleanest bath & shower house of any campground we've been to. And you can't beat the price.
We stayed Sunday and Monday night. After speaking with the visitor center, it's usually full Friday and Saturday.
Clean, well-maintained and spacious sites. A bit of variety to each campsite. Most of the sites seemed to have nice level drive-ups, and the tent areas were clean and level. Big and relatively new picnic tables.
I stayed at the Indiana Dunes State Park a few years back, and that was a "parking lot" style campground -- sites right next to each other in row after row.
I can't say enough good things about his campsite!!
I would definitely camp here again. A great stop on my way to Chicago. Reasonable camping fee.
The only real downside was the traffic noise. Not too bad at night but incessant once the sun starts to shine.
